Anabel and Lissette represented our core team at the Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research (SCOR) Annual Meeting in Helsinki, Finland, where we presented our ongoing work and progress on the science strategy plan for an International Seamount Science Program. The meeting provided an opportunity to share updates with the international ocean science community and engage in discussions on the program’s development and future directions.

We are still riding the wave of excitement from this year’s Ocean Sciences Meeting (OSM26) in Glasgow, where the global oceanography community showed incredible support for our Seamount Initiative.

While there were many milestones throughout the week, our proudest moment was hosting the specialized oral and poster sessions, Seamounts at the Nexus of Ocean Science. In tandem with these sessions, our dedicated town hall Towards an International Seamount Science Program at the Crowne Plaza drew a packed, standing-room-only crowd of researchers, students, and advocates. Following an introduction to the initiative itself and three outstanding presentations, we hosted a lively panel discussion to explore the future of seamount science, debate urgent research priorities, and map out collaborative strategies for global exploration and conservation.

Our next major milestone was taking shape on the global stage. We were thrilled to present our vision for an International Seamount Science Program at the Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research (SCOR) Annual Meeting in Santa Marta, Colombia.
